STEAM Woodworking Workshop

A group of Sequoyah Elementary 4th grade students recently completed a five week, after school session related to woodworking. These students designed a project to fulfill a personal need or want. They created scaled plans of their projects, performed cuts with hand saws, and used power tools to fasten materials together. Through this process students experienced real world connections to measurement, scale and proportion, and the engineering design process. Emphasis was also given on basic tool identification and safety. A special thanks to Dr. Justin Killingsworth, Assistant Professor of Agricultural Education from Arkansas Tech University, for his time and efforts to assist with the class. Due to high student interest and the session’s success, another session will be offered in the Spring.
