Statement released Monday, December 28, 2020:
Dear Families-
Yesterday’s (Sunday, December 27) meal distribution was a special distribution for the holiday week, separate from RSD’s normal food service operations.
Sunday’s meal drive thru was part of a larger community effort.
The prior Sunday meal disbursement had only 20 cars who participated, and with the knowledge that other agencies in the area were also providing meals, our team
felt in order to prevent a large amount of waste 3400 meals prepared would be sufficient for our efforts.
We were overwhelmed today with families in need. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience today’s distribution has caused.
It is not an easy task to produce the amount of food that our volunteers have over the break. The food service staff has had the enormous task of reinventing the way we feed children in the year 2020 and have worked tirelessly to take care of the kids in the Russellville School district.
So to prevent future food shortages, We are asking that families please communicate when they are in need by using the digital forms provided. This way we will know what numbers to expect.
There will be another distribution for Spring Break and it will be like this one- food will be available for pick up on the Sunday before Spring Break.
There will be a virtual sign up so that we have an idea of how much we need and we will produce meals based on the results of virtual sign ups.
Beyond the virtual sign ups meals will be distributed on a first come first serve basis IF YOU DID NOT SIGN UP VIRTUALLY.
Thank you for your support and have a great new year.
